Hey! So Glad You're Here.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page. Following the brutal murder of George Floyd on 25th May 2020 by police officer Derek Chauvin, I found myself asking how I could make a difference to the world around us. George Floyd's murder happened around the time when Sikhs all around the world were remembering the Sikh Genocide that took place in India in 1984, with this year being the 36th anniversary of this horrific event. Wanting to raise awareness of the genocide, I took to Twitter to talk about it, with an aim to raise awareness. I do not have a large following on Twitter so was surprised to see the number of people who had both seen and interacted with my tweet. I was pleasantly surprised to have received messages from people telling me that they had never heard of the 1984 Sikh Genocide before and that my tweet prompted them to find out about it. At this moment I realised the importance of using social media and the internet to educate others about global injustices, and felt that by educating people on both international history and contemporary issues of race in today's Western world, I might be able to change people's attitudes and encourage them to support rights for all minorities.
